Garnishments are legal proceedings imposed by a court of law upon PSI requiring payment to a third party of monies earned by an employee. PSI must accept and process legal garnishments, tax levies and child support orders against wages in compliance with Federal and state statutes. When PSI receives a garnishment and an employee’s check is to be garnished, the employee will be notified of the fact that the garnishment has been received and the effective start date. In some cases, the employer is required to give the employee certain forms or instructions. If the employee contests the garnishment, tax levy or other legal process, it is the employee’s responsibility to contact the creditor and resolve the matter. PSI may not stop or modify a garnishment until a court order directing such a modification is received.
